| Project Title: | Developing Water Policy and Regulatory Options for the Equitable, Sustainable, and Efficient Water Allocation and Management using System Dynamics Approach |
| Abstract of Project : | |
| The changing nature of the Indian economy—from predominantly rural to urban-industrial brings in new challenges related to water allocation and management. These challenges can be seen in relation to the emerging conflicts around inter-sectoral allocation of water (mainly among agriculture, industry and urban cities). In light of this, major reforms are being undertaken in water policy and regulatory framework in India. Among other things, the reforms strongly propose measures such as establishing 'Tradable Entitlements and Rational Pricing System.' However, these proposals are neither backed by a grounded discourse nor are they ever tested in India and other developing countries. This calls for an urgent need for testing and developing various policy and regulatory options for equitable, sustainable, and efficient water allocation and management. System Dynamics provides an appropriate methodological framework for developing such policy and regulatory options. My Fulbright project will focus on developing this methodological framework for its further application and grounding in various water resource projects in India. | |
